PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2024-2025 Heritage Assistant, Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC), North York, ON.

  • Scanning, cataloguing, and data entry of photographs, documents and books from collections (approximately 100 to 200 cm of records) 

    • Created or audited, and applied RAD knowledge in the Susan Nikaido Collection, Hori Collection, Toyonaga Collection, Tom Matsui Collection, Yuki Kondo Collection, Koji Goto Collection, and George Tsushima Collection

  • Ensuring the completion and consistency of past volunteer and student archival work

    • Transcription and description of 8 hours of interviews from the Sedai Oral History collection to increase accessibility for researchers

  • Assessing the Sedai Oral History collection, identifying gaps, and curating material from the collection 

    • Research and development of policies surrounding offensive and out-dated language in oral history and archival collections

    • Developing a standard auditing process for media files in the collection and providing consistent organization in the department’s storage practices

2022-2024    Outreach and Assessment, Toronto Academic Libraries Internship (TALint), Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) Library, University of Toronto 

  • Responding to complex inquiries and helping a diversity of researchers from various academic backgrounds and community members to navigate the library’s archival Ontario Historical Education Collections (OHEC), and cataloguing and database system

  • Co-creating a research project that investigates outreach for Black, Indigenous, and racialized students in academic libraries

    • Includes an ethics proposal, recruitment process, and conducted interviews that will result in publication and will be referenced for future academic library outreach initiatives

  • Curating book displays dedicated to social justice and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in children’s literature and curriculum related to Black and Indigenous knowledge, histories, and representation for teachers to bring into Ontario classrooms

  • Adjudicated EDI Unit Student Initiative Funds in support of recognized student groups with facilitating equity-based initiatives and projects to help advance equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within the Faculty of Information

    • Inspiring collaboration between student groups and influenced the planning of events dedicated towards Black Digital Humanities facilitated by the Diversity Working Group and Braille Preservation facilitated by the Accessibility Interests Working Group

  • Co-facilitated workshops dedicated to centring marginalized voices within the Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museum sector of work to encourage safe community building

    • Programming initiatives required collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, designing and disseminating promotional materials to BIPoC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and disabled communities, and planning of a cumulative exhibition
